Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE – MAIN) is a national entrance exam organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate courses in engineering and architecture in various institutes such as NITs, IITs, and GIFTs. Annually, lakhs of students take the JEE Mains test.

We have compiled the detailed information in this article regarding JEE MAIN to facilitate the candidates so that they can come to know how to apply for JEE Main 2020.

The process to apply for JEE MAIN:

Step 1 – Log on to the official website of JEE-MAIN, read the instructions carefully and enter the required details.

Step 2 – After the general information fill-in the personal and educational details in the form.

Step 3 – Upload the scanned copy of the Photograph and Signature in .jpeg or .jpg format.

Step 4 – Once you have filled in all the information, check it once again and then submit the form.

Step 5 – Pay the examination fee.

Eligibility Criteria:

National Testing Agency (NTA) has some strict guidelines about the eligibility criteria for JEE MAIN. The aspirants should be meeting the below-mentioned criteria in order to apply for the JEE MAIN entrance exam

  • Candidate must have completed higher secondary education or equivalent in the year 2018, 2019 or are to appear for it in 2020.
  • Age is not specified.
  • There is no specific mention about it however the colleges demand that the student must have mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology as main subjects. Hence the candidate should be from a science background.

Exam Pattern:

JEE MAIN is a computer-based test and its duration is 3 hrs. The type of questions included in the exam is MCQs (Multiple choice questions) and NVT (Numeric value type). The test for centers in Gujrat (Daman & Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli) is conducted in Gujrat, Hindi and English are the major languages.

There are three papers – BE/BTech, BArch, and BPlan in the 2020 edition of the JEE MAIN examination. The total number of questions has been reduced. Numeric based question is included. In addition, Paper 1 (B.E. BTech) and Paper 2 (BArch / planning) will be performed entirely in computer-based test mode and the BArch drawing test will only be done offline.

JEE Exam Admit Card:

Admit Card is a hall ticket in order to verify the candidate who applied for the exam and the one appearing is the same. Admit Card for JEE has already been released by NTA. Candidate can download the admit card from the official website of JEE. The Admit Card is the essential document that must be carried to the examination hall. Along with the admit card student need to carry valid identity proof such as Aadhar card, driving license, PAN card etc. This Admit Card will also be required at various stages for the admission process.

Cutoff and Result:

Cutoff for JEE MAIN will be announced along with the declaration of result in the April session. The minimum marks obtained in clear the examination is said to be the Cutoff. There will be two types of Qualifying and Admission Cutoff. It depends on factors such as difficulty level of questions, the total number of students applying etc. JoSAA publishes opening and closing rank marks after the result declaration. Results are already out for the January attempt. NTA will release the scorecard in online mode once the result is declared. JEE 2020’s main result will consist of scores for all three topics including the overall scores the candidate receives. The JEE result will also have JEE Advanced certification status. Applicants achieving more than the cutoff for the JEE Main 2020 will be eligible to take the JEE Advanced 2020 Exam.

Exam Preparation:

As there are only 3 months remaining for the April session of JEE Main One should completely dedicate their time for its preparations. Below are a few tips that would help you to prepare for the exam.

  • Dividing your timetable is such that you can cover all your syllabus before April.
  • Don’t keep on juggling with a lot of resources, research and stick to limited but effected resources that can help you to cover everything.
  • Keep a habit of maintaining notes while the study that will help you in the revision period.  Revision is a must.
  • Generally, in exam mode we panic, tend to sleep less and study more and even miss our meals. However, these are a strict no-no. One should eat, sleep and study in proper proportions.  Also, don’t forget to keep yourself well hydrated.
  • You can evaluate your knowledge by taking Mock tests at regular intervals. That can be a game-changer. You can figure out the time and type of question you will be appearing in the exam by attempting Mock tests.
