Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020
GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a national level postgraduate examination conducted collectively by the seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. GATE helps candidates to get admission to the MTech programs offered by the government and many private institutions. GATE scores are valid for three years from the date when the result is released.
GATE 2020 admit card has already been released on January 3 by IIT Delhi. Candidates who have successfully applied for GATE 2020 can download the admit card from GOAPS using their Enrollment ID / Email Address and password.
- Eligibility:
The Eligibility criteria for students to apply for GATE is as follows:
- Students in the final year of bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture programs can apply.
- Also, the students in the final year of master’s degree in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications or equivalent can apply.
There is no age limit for students eligible to appear in GATE exam. Students in the pre-final year do not qualify for the GATE test.
- Process for Application:
It is an online process that included registration, filling the online application form, uploading the required documents, and payment of application fee. Below are the steps for GATE 2020 registration:
Step 1: Visit the GOAPS website. Aspirants are requested to register by filling in necessary details such as First name, middle name, Surname, etc. After filling in the details, click on submit. When enrollment is active, an e-mail will be sent to your registered e-mail address with your GOAPS Enrollment ID as well as an SMS. To login, the GOAPS interface candidates require to create a password. So, they are advices to keep their password information safe and not disclose it to anyone.
Step 2: Online Form filling of the GATE 2020 examination. To fill out the online GATE 2020 application form, applicants needed to sign in to the official GOAPS website using their credentials. After login, candidates will be able to fill the application form. The site allows aspirants to enter the info, “Save” partially filled out a form, “Logout” and resume the application form filling by logging in again.
Step 3: Uploading of documents. Documents such as scanned Image, Signature, Eligibility Certificate, SC/ST Certificate, and PwD Certificate as per the given specifications need to upload according to requirement.
Step 4: Payment of registration fee for GATE 2020. Candidates are required to pay the GATE 2020 application fee after filling out the online application form. When the payment is made, there is a unique “Fee Payment Number” that MUST be saved as it will be used in the later stages when the applicant fills out the GATE 2020 Application form.

- GATE 2020 Syllabus:
Syllabus for GATE 2020 has already been released on the official website by IIT Delhi. GATE 2020 has made a new addition to its existing 24 papers, and that is Biomedical Engineering. All the papers are available on the GATE portal. The GATE 2020 syllabus will help candidates learn the key topics and subjects; also, the syllabus will help in preparing for the national level entrance tests.
- Let’s know little more about GATE 2020 exam pattern:
Why knowing about exam pattern is necessary? That is because it helps candidates to know about the type of questions, the number of questions and marking schemes, and essential information about the exam. GATE will contain both MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) and NAT (Numerical type questions). General Aptitude will be the common subject in all GATE papers, and the other will differ accordingly to the paper which students will appear for. By knowing about the exam paper, students get more familiar with the nature of the entrance test.
- Cutoff of GATE 2020:
Minimum marks an applicant must obtain to qualify for the exam is said to be the Cut-off score. GATE 2020 cutoff will be released along with the result on 16 March 2020. All the papers will have separate cut off and all it will be different for all categories. Candidates who score equal to or more than the cutoff score will be able to secure a position in the MTech courses at the participating institutes. Not only admission in MTech but also those who score equal to or more marks than the cutoff will be offered the highest paid jobs from different Public sector units.
