Our Environment is giving Wakeup calls every now and then. Its high time we wake up with these calls and save ourselves from a world that is a deficit of most of our resources. Clean water, pollution-free air, climate changes, deforestation, disposal of Wastes, loss of biodiversity are some of the environmental problems that have affected almost every living thing on the earth.
We should know about some of the environmental issues in detail and its preventions. First, to understand their effect on the environment, we need to know what their definition, interrelationship, and functioning are. Further let’s know some environmental volunteer ideas and how we can do our bit for environment.
Climate Change:
The environmental effects of climate change are becoming ever more compelling in our modern world. Further influential evidence of climatic changes including glacier melting, ice on rivers getting thinner day by day, changes in animal and plant ranges have already been found. Consequences of climate change include more severe wildfires, a rise in temperature, a significant rise in tropical storm count and its duration, also, longer periods of drought in some regions and many others. We have already started facing the effects of climate change and if we do not make any changes from our side it is going to be very difficult for us to survive. There are various environmental volunteer programs that we can take upon in order to slow down or reverse the effects of climate change.
- Change in lifestyle, you can make some changes in your lifestyle which could cut down your carbon impact.
- Lesser use of cars cut down on the usage of air conditioners and other devices.
- Eat smart which means to use more organic products in the diet one can also opt for vegan meals.
- Eliminate the burning of coal, oil and natural gases.
- We can develop energy-efficient buildings and improved cement-making processes.
- We can Improve our agricultural practices along with paper recycling and forest management. In simple words grow more trees.
Air Pollution:
Air pollution is any material that may hamper the surviving environment or the well-being of living beings living in it. The atmosphere is defined as the area of air and gas enveloping objects in space, like stars and planets, the increase or decrease in the amount of these gases can be harmful to the living. Due to high air pollution, multiple respiratory and heart-related diseases, global warming, ozone layer depletion, acid rain, etc. are the consequences we will suffer from. Ways to lesser down air pollutions are.
- Save energy by efficient use of electricity.
- Encourage the habit of making more use of public transport.
- We can use less, can use again and recycle the products.
- Keep an approach of using clean technologies such as solar, wind and geothermal.
Loss of Biodiversity:
The definition of biodiversity refers to the amount of diversity in each habitat at a time between different plants, animals, and other species. Intervention from a human with nature can be the major reason behind the loss of Biodiversity. This causes severe adverse effects on our entire ecological system and humans. Thus, it is necessary to take steps to prevent the loss of biodiversity and create a healthy future for generations to come. Loss of habitat, overuse of resources and the use of more chemical fertilizers and pesticides is said to be the main reasons for biodiversity loss. A few of the steps which could help in tackling this problem are.
- Protecting various species and their habitats.
- Prevent deforestation.
- Stop pollution.
- Stop the overuse of resources and energy.
- Make people educate with the term biodiversity and how to protect it.
Water Pollution:
According to the researches, almost 70% of the earth’s surface is water and 2.5% of that is clean water and out of which only 1% is available for use. The water quality of huge water bodies depends on sources that affect them. Water sources gets polluted due to various human activities. Pollution from water affects us in various ways, such as waterborne diseases are increasing as typhoid, cholera, jaundice, dysentery etc. Adverse effects on the food chain, destruction of ecosystems, Eutrophication are some of the dangerous consequences, too. Governments are attempting to control harm by developing water quality requirements to regulate use. Water pollution is the biggest threat to us and some of the ways in which we can contribute are.
- Save water should be our first aim.
- We should not through our wastes in any of the water bodies.
- Chemicals from factories or industries must not be disposed of in water supplies or drains.
- We need to spread awareness on how water gets polluted and how can we avoid doing that.
- The manure can be recycled by farmers to biofuel production.
- Use environmentally friendly materials that are soluble in such a way that they do not become polluting.
Disposal of Wastes:
Large quantities of waste are generated annually and grow day by day with high population density. Due to not proper disposal of waste our soil, water, and air are getting contaminated. It also has created a huge impact on humans as well as animals and marine lives. The moisture losses have a breeding ground for disease-carrying pests, and it destroys the planet gradually. Inadequate waste disposal structure has negative effects on the health, the mortality of children and the rate of birth. To reduce or eliminate waste disposal on earth we can take up the below-mentioned steps.
- Avoid usage of plastic bags instead one can use jute bags.
- Stop using paper products.
- Here again, your focus should be on growing, reusing and recycling.
- In first place take how much you can eat and if there are any leftovers or food wastes you can dump it in a pit at your backyard and can use it as compost.
There’s a long way to go but we can strengthen our methods of preserving our environment as we grow as a community and as our technologies advance.
