In a significant update for candidates appearing in the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2024, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced additional security measures. According to NTA officials, candidates will now undergo frisking and biometric attendance not only upon entry but also after toilet breaks.
This stringent protocol extends beyond candidates to encompass officials, observers, staff members, and those serving refreshments. The decision is rooted in the NTA’s commitment to eradicating any possibilities of unfair practices or proxy attendance during the examination.
NTA Director Subodh Kumar Singh explained that while strict mechanisms are already in place, the goal is to make the exam entirely foolproof, leaving no room for incidents of malpractice. The existing screening process at the entry point, coupled with biometric attendance, will now be repeated after any toilet breaks.
This comprehensive approach is part of a broader strategy by the NTA to enhance the integrity of the examination process. Subodh Kumar Singh indicated that similar measures might be extended to other exams in the future.
The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main serves as the screening test for admissions to centrally-funded technical institutions like NITs and IIITs. Successful candidates from the merit list’s top 20% become eligible for the JEE (Advanced), the entrance test for the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
The JEE (Main)-2024 is scheduled as a Computer Based Test (CBT) from January 24 to February 1, with results set to be announced on February 12. The NTA has experienced an overwhelming response, receiving a record 12.3 lakh registrations for the exam. Additionally, the second edition of the bi-annual exam is slated for April.
