Starting January 1, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is initiating psychological counseling for students and parents. The primary goal is to equip them with effective tools and techniques for managing the stress associated with exams.
In a press release, the CBSE announced the commencement of psychological counseling services on January 1, 2024. The practical and theory paper exam schedule has already been declared, spanning from January 1 to February 15, 2024. The scheduling of psychological counseling aligns with the needs of students for their facilitation.
CBSE emphasizes that the psychological counseling services are an integral part of the board’s outreach program, addressing the diverse student and parent population and the extensive network of schools across various geographical locations. The program aims to assist students in overcoming anxiety related to exams.
As part of the initiative, CBSE has introduced an IVRS facility on the toll-free number 1800 11 8004. Students, parents, and stakeholders can access pre-recorded valuable information on navigating board exams, including tips for effective preparation, time and stress management, frequently asked questions, and live telecounseling services.
CBSE Tele-Counseling is facilitated by principals and trained counselors from CBSE-affiliated schools, both locally and nationally. This voluntary service is provided at no cost to the participants.
A comprehensive audio-visual presentation titled ‘Knowing Children Better’ has been created and uploaded on the CBSE website. The presentation covers various topics addressing real-time experiences and problems faced by adolescents, offering coping strategies.
In addition, CBSE experts will address student queries through weekly question-answer columns published in major national newspapers throughout February.
The psychological counseling program will continue in two phases: first, before the examinations, and second, after the release of results. CBSE has been conducting this program since 1998, marking its 26th consecutive year of offering psychological counseling services.
